Across the street: Michel Mullèr and Botanic Sanctuary Antwerp
Serene, natural, peaceful. The words that describe Botanic Sanctuary Antwerp also describe the work of Michel Mullèr. It is no coincidence that his works can be found in the hotel’s entrance hall and suites. Botanic magazine dedicated a feature to the collaboration.
A gallery found by chance
Mullèr first looked for a gallery-studio in Paris and London. Antwerp was not high on his list. Then, on a visit to the city, he parked on Leopoldstraat, right in front of an empty space with a “for lease” sign. One phone call later, the deal was done.
The empty space became his gallery and atelier, at Leopoldstraat 29, right opposite the hotel.
Chosen for the suites
One day, Maryse Odeurs, founder of Botanic Sanctuary Antwerp, walked into the gallery. On the spot, she chose work after work for the hotel’s suites. It was the start of a lasting collaboration. Today, Mullèr’s works hang in the rooms, and part of his collection is shown in the hotel’s entrance hall.
Calm in a busy world
Mullèr’s work hangs in homes and hotels around the world, from Saudi Arabia to London and Switzerland. Its appeal lies in the calm it brings into a room. In a time of constant scrolling and screens, his works offer a moment of rest. That is why they sit so naturally in the suites of a hotel built around tranquillity.
Made by hand, inspired by nature
Mullèr works intuitively, guided by feeling. Every work is made entirely by his own hand, built up leaf by leaf, layer by layer. Inspiration comes from nature. He never went to art school. Every technique and every design is self-taught and of his own invention.
Watch the artist at work
The gallery on Leopoldstraat is also his studio. Visitors don’t just see finished works; they can watch new ones being made.
Visit the gallery at Leopoldstraat 29, Antwerp, opposite Botanic Sanctuary. Open Wednesday to Saturday, 11:00–18:00, or by appointment.
